The 2010 Sundance Film Festivalis three short days away. The next ten days are prime for people watching here at the Lodge as well as in Park City. It is not uncommon to see celebrities walking through the Main Lodge on their way to Skiers’ Buffet or to the Troll Hallen Lounge for Apres Ski.
This year there are over 200 dramatic, documentary, and short films presented at the festival. Tickets are now available online. In addition to films there is the music cafe which features various artists over eight days of the festival including one of my all-time favorites Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.
Freestyle athletes will make their second to last stop before the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Park City, Utah. The three day event takes place at Deer Valley Resort on January 14 - 16, 2010. Fans can watch these future Olympians free of charge as they compete in moguls and aerial competitions. Here is the detailed schedule of events.
The past few years I have watch the final ladies’ and mens’ mogul competitions. If you have a chance to get to any of the events I highly recommend it. Don’t forget to come to the Lodge for apres ski by the fire in the Troll Hallen Lounge.
Come to Stein Eriksen Lodge this holiday season to see the awe-inspiring gingerbread creation, favorite attraction of the Lodge. This year’s creation is a nine feet long, four feet wide and five feet tall gingerbread Thomas the Train. The edible confection is the eighth such masterpiece of executive pastry chef Raymond Lammers, who oversees the design and construction of a different gingerbread structure for the Lodge each year.
Featuring over 250 pounds of gingerbread and 80 pounds of icing, Thomas has operating wheels, eyes and colored icing to match the original colors of Thomas the Train.
In addition to marveling at the gingerbread masterpiece, young guests can express their own creativity in gingerbread classes led by Lammers and executive chef Zane Holmquist. The Build Your Own Gingerbread House parties will be held Monday, Dec. 21 and Dec. 28 from 4-5:30 pm. The cost is $60 and includes hot chocolate, gingerbread panels, icing, candies, and instructions. Guest will want to book early by calling 435.645.6460, class size is limited and children eight and under require adult supervision.

The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge renovation is on schedule and will open on December 4, 2009. With the expansion from 9 to 16 treatment rooms we have the flexibility to add new and exiting treatments to the 2009/2010 winter spa menu.
The Women's Relaxation Room
While the entire treatment menu is designed to combat the high altitude and dry climate in Park City, there are some exiting new treatments worth noting. First, The Great Salt Stone Therapy treatment which utilizes salt candles and salt massage stones to remove toxins from the air and body through the production of negative ions. The Crystalliline Gemstone Facial that utilizes the energy of micronized crystalline gemstones blended with bentonite clay to create a high energy, tightening and detoxifying result. Lastly, the High Altitude Package which combines three of the spa’s signature treatments with a focus on replenishing the body’s oxygen supply.
The outdoor heated pool deck
The new fitness facilities will include a wide selection of fitness equipment, including resistance machines, weights, stair machines, and treadmills. Guests can also enjoy breathtaking views of Deer Valley Resort from the year round outdoor heated pool, unwind in the outdoor hot tub and gather around the new fire place which was installed during the recent 2,000 square foot expansion of the deck.
